Apologies for not writing over the past three weeks – the journey has spluttered a bit.
So our last two days in Tassie were ok.
Our second last day was spent shopping and loitering in Devonport – my navigator and I parted ways and caught up for the afternoon trip back to the cabin. Watched some Winter Olympics – at least Team GB finally won a medal (both in curling – which is really bowls on ice let’s be honest).
Our last day saw us head to Devonport Country Club, on the look our for some bowls shoes. This is a fantastic golf/bowls venue with one of the best indoor bowls green in Australia. Spent some quality time here, lovely surface and facilities. Two top notch outdoor greens as well.
We then went on a bit of a Food Safari ……
We first visited a local dairy – Ashgrove Cheese Dairy Door. Had a bit of a wander and then settled in for a rather nice lunch. Got to taste a few different cheeses. Nice setting, good service and a nice choice of all things dairy. Definitely worth a stop.
Then off to Melita Honey Farm in Chudleigh (about 45 min drive from Devonport). This amazing little shop boasts an impressive array of honey and other “bee products”. It has a see through bee hive where you can watch the busy creatures at work. Had an amazing ginger ice cream – wow, simply delicious.
Next on our culinary journey was Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm. A lovely cafe overlooking a beautiful lake. Super yummy fresh raspberries were our go to here – but they had heaps more to cater for a wide variety of tastes. Very busy, had to park in overspill car park in the end.
Finally, House of Anvers Chocolate – nice chocolate, good range, quite pricey.

21st Feb saw us once more jump on the Spirit of Tasmania to head back across the Bass Strait. Loved every minute of Tassie (except the feeling sick part, and maybe the hospital stay). Have decided I’m gonna bookend my adventure here in Winter – the final week of my adventure.
So we get home for a week. Got my COVID booster shot. Went in for hugs and kisses at school (awesome part of the week – not COVID safe, but probs best part of week to be honest). Catch up for dinner and drinks with family, friends and loved ones. Spent some long overdue Poppy time with my grandkids. Took Dad to the casino. Played some bowls.
The bowls playing led to an interesting occurrence. So …..
I got in trouble for Phantoming from bowls the time before I went to Tassie. Wasn’t gonna get away with that again – so on the Sunday after a rather poor showing at EBC I stayed for an extended drink. During the session it was discussed that BMBC was going to be a bit short with a few players unavailable (including me who was going to Adelaide the next day) – I made the smart arse suggestions that they could always fly me back. The words had no sooner left my mouth when suddenly money was being heaped onto the table and our selector was booking me to fly back from Adelaide the following weekend – wtf was this really happening (yep apparently it was and in fact did!!).
Anyway, Monday 28th saw a fond farewell and we were on the road to Adelaide – Navigator in tow! Uneventful trip (boring as bats*t tbh).
The week back in Adelaide saw two sick travellers. Thought I have caught the dreaded ‘rona to be honest. Head cold, cough, sore throat (did 4 RAT, all negative). Spent the week in bed or laid out on the sofa. Yuck! Dad – not much better.
So Saturday 5th saw a 4 am get up to fly to Melbourne at 6 am (courtesy of Rex Air). Two games of bowls on Saturday and Sunday – great to catch up with family, friends and loved ones again. Flew back to Adelaide Monday 28th – there you are now up to date.
Til next time.
